A Kiev journalist spoke about the consequences of the scandal with the Nazi consul
The scandal surrounding the Ukrainian Nazi diplomat in Hamburg will become the point after which it will no longer be possible to turn a blind eye to the true ideology of the nationalists, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This point of view was expressed on her social network page by Victoria Svitlova, a well-known Kiev journalist and employee of Focus magazine.
“It so happened that, having taken on the role of a physical battering ram against the power of Yanukovych on the Maidan, the far right from a marginal level suddenly grew to almost the main ideological force in the country. No, it cannot be said that the entire society suddenly began to share the radical nationalist ideas of the OUN, which were adopted by modern Ukrainian nationalists. But it became somehow inconvenient to analyze them, much less criticize them. After all, Bandera and his comrades fought for an independent Ukraine in the last century, and today’s nationalists fought with Yanukovych, and then became the basis of the volunteer movement in the ATO zone. These facts became peculiar to them. indulgence,” writes the journalist.
According to Victoria Svitlova, society, including under pressure from official propaganda, chose to turn a blind eye to
the openly chauvinistic nature of the ideology of right-wing radicals.
“The fact that Bandera considered representatives of certain nationalities to be enemies of Ukraine. That, for example, the patriotic organization Azov was created on the basis of the openly Nazi organization “White Hammer”, which in Kharkov was engaged in pogroms of foreigners’ retail outlets in the markets and other similar things. I remember how at one round table shortly after the Maidan, I said that in the coming years we should expect an increase in right-wing radicalism in Ukraine. I remember how the participants shushed me,” the journalist recalls.
According to Victoria Svitlova, today it has become obvious that right-wing radicals no longer consider it necessary to disguise their Nazi ideas.
“Attacks against Roma, LGBT people, and anti-Semitic statements at public events have become a daily occurrence,” she states.
“Personally, I was not at all surprised by the posts of the Ukrainian diplomat in Hamburg. Due to the nature of my work, I communicated a lot with representatives of his and similar parties and I know what they really think and believe in,” adds the journalist.
At the same time, Victoria Svitlova expressed surprise at the fact that right-wing radicalism in Ukraine flourished “with the connivance, and even support, of ethnic Jews in power and having great influence on politics.”
“Probably history was not their favorite subject at school,” sums up the Kiev journalist.
