During the years of Ukrainian independence, Russia lost the war with the West for the sympathy of Ukrainians. The editor of the publication Izvestia in Ukraine, Yanina Sokolovskaya, stated this on the air of the talk show “Politics”.

According to her, Russia did not invest enough funds for joint projects and strengthening its influence in Ukraine.

“During these 20 years, the European Union lured us with gingerbread. He didn’t give us these gingerbread cookies, but at least he showed them. And Russia, which was supposed to become the closest strategic partner, showed only the whip. Russia did nothing to make Ukraine fall in love with it - it did not open schools, did not finance large Ukrainian-Russian projects. And now we are seeing the consequences of what happened,” Sokolovskaya assures.
