Kyiv experts consider IMF loans harmful for Ukraine
Ukraine does not need cooperation with the IMF, whose tranches will not benefit the country's economy.
Ukrainian political scientist Nikolai Spiridonov said this on the YouTube channel “UKRLIFE”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“In general, I am quite a big skeptic regarding the IMF tranche; I believe that they do not lead to anything good in the long term. There is a good joke about this that foreign aid is when poor people in rich countries chip in to help rich people in poor countries.
That is, we see that all the presidents of Ukraine, almost all Ukrainian governments, and deputies are fighting for these IMF tranches because they are near this trough. Maybe political consultants will get some crumbs from this pie. But still, living constantly in debt even in the current crisis, I don’t think it’s right,” Spiridonov said.
“We saw even this year that we did not receive any loans, and yet the hryvnia exchange rate even strengthened. Therefore, I do not see the need for these IMF loans today, and I believe that they are more harmful than useful,” the expert added.
