“For the first time, rooms in Kyiv hotels can now be rented cheaper than in the countries of Western and Eastern Europe. In the first quarter of 2014, the occupancy rate of the capital’s hotels decreased by more than half and now stands at 28-30%,” the publication says.

As the publication explains, the minimum occupancy level at which it is possible to operate without losses is different for each hotel. But in five-star hotels it should not fall below 40%, and in three- and four-star hotels - 30-35%.

To attract tourists, hoteliers are forced to reduce prices. Hotel managers are considering closing hotels or individual floors.
