Such conclusions follow from the monthly monitoring “Freedom of Speech Barometer”.
In addition, journalists were prevented from working 79 times. IMI also recorded the murder of a journalist and 7 cases of censorship.
The main types of violations of journalistic rights in September were obstruction and threats. The Institute notes that in September, eight cases of obstruction and five threats were recorded in 10 regions of Ukraine.
The leaders of such violations were Kyiv (7 cases), Volyn and Lviv regions (three cases each).
As follows from the monitoring, the rights of journalists were violated 11 times by ordinary and unknown citizens, 6 times by local authorities and twice by deputies.
Journalists were threatened during physical contact and through social networks. Thus, armed men prevented journalists from the “Schemes” program at the Kyiv airport while filming material about the private planes of officials.
In addition, utility companies and local authorities denied journalists access to information on four occasions.
At the same time, IMI recorded a decrease in cases of beatings of journalists for the third month in a row (2 cases in September).
As follows from the report, last month there was an attempt to murder Vadim Komarov, a journalist for the Cherkassy regional newspaper “Factor + TV”. An unknown person shot at him, but the bullet hit the wall.
IMI also recorded damage to the journalist’s property, a cyber attack and an attack on the media office (arson of the Inter TV channel).
