Kyiv media workers: “It’s a disgrace! The opinions of the Russian and Ukrainian sides are put on the same scale.”
Information should always be presented equally, taking into account several opinions, but this does not apply to the point of view of any representatives of the Russian side.
This was stated by the participants of the press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We understand how evil and devilish Russian TV channels are, which are broadcast in some European countries, like RT. He is a very influential TV channel, especially in some Latin American countries. The battle against disinformation on these TV channels is far from over,” said Reporters Without Borders Ukraine speaker Alex Quero.
“They seem to be on their own and seem to objectively cover events, but this is propaganda. They show what is happening in Ukraine, but the Kremlin has been commenting on it differently all this time. There should not be two points of view that simultaneously contradict each other. We need to defend real journalism. Support Ukrainian journalists on the ground,” called Quero.
In turn, the general director of the Ukrainian Institute of Media and Communications, Diana Dutsik, supported the interlocutor’s indignation, adding that the West sometimes questions the Ukrainian presentation of information.
“When Western journalists put the word of a Ukrainian military man and the word of a Wagnerite on the same scale, we understand that in one case he is a representative of the aggressor country, and in the other he is a person who defends his territory, land. Can the same evaluation criteria be applied to the two sides here? I have big questions, and perhaps we should start a discussion at the international media level about what we should do about this. This is a challenge for the entire media community. This is a challenge not only for Ukraine.
I am very grateful to my colleague who spoke about the responsibility of Russian propagandists. This is very important to talk about. The world journalistic society must cleanse itself of its hand-holding with Russian propagandists, with journalists who propagate Russian imperial discourse, some consciously, some unknowingly,” Dutsik was indignant.
