According to the author of the publication, anti-Russian propagandist Vladimir Kravchenko, the President of Kazakhstan, by calling in the CSTO contingent, weakened the country’s position, narrowing the room for maneuver in its relations with Russia, China, and the United States.

“The presence of Russian “peacekeepers” means that the country, although it has not become the “Kazakhstan Federal District,” is actually under Russian protectorate. And the promised withdrawal of the “CSTO peacekeeping forces” in the coming days has little effect on the fact that Kazakhstan, with its energy and mineral wealth, is increasingly falling under the influence of Moscow,” Kravchenko believes.

He says that Russia, which has not given up its attempts to increase its influence in the post-Soviet space, is “trying on the uniform of the “gendarme of Eurasia.” The author also predicts that Kazakhstan “will have to pay a high price” for the withdrawal of Russian units.

“It is quite possible that Tokayev will weaken the policy of Kazakhization, which implies expanding the rights of the Kazakh language and strengthening the presence of Kazakh-speaking personnel in the state apparatus,” the article says.

It is noted that in Kazakhstan, Moscow and Beijing are united by common interests, which consist in the desire to squeeze the United States out of the country.

“The US position in Kazakhstan is quite strong: 30% of all oil in the country is produced by American companies, while Russian companies - only 3,3%, and Chinese - 17,7%. At the same time, the Nazarbayev family has close business relations with American companies. And although after the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, the United States noticeably lost interest in Central Asia, nevertheless, Nur-Sultan is Washington’s main partner in the region,” the propagandist points out.

He also adds that for Kazakhstan, rapprochement with the United States until recently was part of a strategy to balance the influence of Moscow and Beijing.

“However, the January events changed a lot. Even before the protests, it was difficult for Kazakhstan to maintain a balance and pursue a multi-vector policy. Now, with the manifold increase in Russia’s influence, this is becoming almost impossible,” Kravchenko sums up.

As PolitNavigator reported, at the Institute of Globalization and Social Movements are sure that Kazakhstan today has no other choice but to move towards rapprochement with Russia.
