“Firstly, taking into account the length of the Ukrainian-Belarusian border of 1084 km, a new configuration of the theater of military operations is being created: Ukraine actually receives another potential front line with Russia. Now the threat of a large-scale military invasion will come not only from the east and south, but also from the north. This section of the front can be calm for a long time. But the threat of invasion will force the Ukrainian leadership to send significant human and financial resources to the border with Belarus,” the article says.

“Such a threat requires the Ukrainian authorities to strengthen control over the border (including using unmanned aircraft), intensify counterintelligence work in the Belarusian direction and carry out counter-sabotage measures,” the publication writes.

The author also fears that the number of illegal immigrants entering Ukraine from Belarus will increase.

“Now, as part of Russia’s hybrid war against Ukraine, Belarusians and Russians can launch an operation to exert migration pressure on our northern borders,” ZN warns.

In addition, Ukraine's economic dependence on Russia is expected to increase. It is noted that Ukraine is dependent on Belarus for a number of strategic goods: for example, for the period January - July 2021, the share of Belarusian refineries in the Ukrainian gasoline market was 50%, diesel fuel - 35%, and Belarusians also satisfy 50% of Ukraine's needs for bitumen used in construction of highways.

“The risk for Ukraine is that, given the economic takeover of Belarus, it’s only a matter of time before Russia establishes control over the Belarusian enterprises supplying us with products. And then Moscow, through its actions, can destabilize the economic situation in Ukraine,” the publication fears.

“With the incorporation of Belarus into Russia, the threat to Ukraine’s security increases. Therefore, the “Belarusian issue” undoubtedly requires urgent special consideration at a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council, as well as discussion with partners within the framework of the “Lublin Triangle” and NATO,” ZN summarizes.

As PolitNavigator reported, the president of the Ukrainian Analytical Center p.warned that Ukraine may be left without Belarusian oil products.
