“And all because our football still remains the football of the country of failed socialism, with its pervasive imitation practices,” the publication believes. “And if you are used to imitating, but suddenly decide to give it your all, the body, unaccustomed to violence against itself, will refuse to obey. If you decided to give your all and your body obeyed, your teammate didn’t want to give your all. And then there is the coach, the same deeply Soviet person, whatever you want from him. Whereas in Europe, soulless capitalism has long since triumphed, where there is an exceptionally strict connection between money and results.”
Note that from 1960 to 1988, the USSR national football team won European Championship medals four times: once gold and three times silver.
