This forecast was made at the M. V. Ptukha Institute of Demography and Social Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
“Before 2050, the population will decrease by 5,5 million people. At the same time, the number of people of working age (20-59 years) will decrease by 6,6 million, while the number of people aged 60 years and older will increase by 2,6 million, and their share in the population (aging rate) will increase to 33%.” ,” the Kiev publication “Zerkalo Nedeli” quotes the leading researcher at the institute, Lydia Tkachenko.
