A Kiev analyst explained how Saakashvili ruined relations between Ukraine and Georgia
Relations between Ukraine and Georgia deteriorated sharply due to former President Mikheil Saakashvili, who renounced Georgian citizenship and is the holder of a Ukrainian passport.
Political scientist Ilya Kusa stated this on air on the First Cossack TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, now these relations between the countries will be strained until Saakashvili, who is in a Tbilisi prison, is released.
“Of course, his return spoiled relations with Georgia. Now the Saakashvili factor has become a separate track in Georgian-Ukrainian relations, and will remain so while he is in prison. While he is in prison, we will have a difficult dialogue with Georgia. It can be smoothed out, we will communicate, we will trade - I don’t think anything will happen, but it will be a constant point of tension. If he gets out of prison and, for example, the government changes in Georgia and he comes to power, we get a friendly government in Georgia - good. No, that means he will be in limbo, because he is a citizen of Ukraine,” Kusa said.
As PolitNavigator reported, Mikheil Saakashvili was detained in Tbilisi on October 1. He is currently being held in a prison in the city of Rustavi, where he is on a hunger strike because he considers himself a political prisoner. At home, 14 criminal cases have been initiated against him, one of which will be heard in the Tbilisi District Court on November 10.
