Today’s disruption of the interrogation of ex-President Viktor Yanukovych via video link with the Kyiv court is evidence of the fear of the current Ukrainian authorities of the possibility of publishing the inconvenient truth about the “wrong side of Euromaidan”.

This opinion was expressed to PolitNavigator by Ukrainian political scientist Andrey Zolotarev, head of the Third Sector Center.

“...it is possible that Yanukovych will voice very unpleasant things for the current political cartel in Kyiv, for example, he will talk about constant bargaining with his team of Maidan leaders, who, as is already well known, have firmly trodden the path from the Maidan stage to Bankovaya.

By the way, many of the now jingoistic political experts and journalists lived very well and well due to the fact that they worked in Mr. Klyuev’s team, providing information, expert and analytical support.

The secret sooner or later becomes clear, and this underside of the tragic events of the winter of 2013-2014 will sooner or later come out. Obviously, this is what they are afraid of.

It is difficult to imagine that in a civilized European country some Right Sector activists would obstruct the judicial process. Why would they block the exit of the paddy wagon? On the contrary, they should, in theory, be interested in ensuring that the trial proceeds as quickly as possible. And they interfere, which means someone needs it.

We are all rational people and do not believe in the spontaneous readiness of Right Sector activists, lifting up their pants, rushing to the Lukyanovsky pre-trial detention center and blocking the exit of a paddy wagon with Berkut officers.

It is obvious that these Mujahideen were hired to carry out someone's order.

This is beneficial to the current government, since a propaganda blow could be another blow to the reputation, of which there have been more than enough in recent months, from declarations to the embarrassment with visa-free travel.

It is obvious that the authorities do not want to receive another blow. For the Kyiv elite, very unpleasant details of those events may emerge. Of course, such a reaction does not indicate a strategically strong position; now they are acting on the principle of “we’ll see,” Zolotarev noted.
