Kiev diplomat accused Merkel of trying to bribe Zelensky
German Chancellor Angela Merkel did not comply with Ukraine’s requests and stop the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, and is now allegedly trying to buy Ukraine.
The former deputy head of the presidential administration of Ukraine during the time of Petro Poroshenko, ex-head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vadim Prystaiko, stated this on the air of the Direct TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Prystaiko, the Chancellor’s recent visit to Kyiv, which took place on the eve of Independence Day, was empty - Merkel did not talk about NATO membership or admission to the European Union.
“Unfortunately, we expected that she would still be able to defend the position that we had long laid down, which is that Nord Stream 2 is, first of all, not about the economy and not about finance, it is more about the security of one of the largest states in Europe. Unfortunately, in her rhetoric, and in what she spoke with Putin, economic things, money, prevailed - money cannot buy us. I think that the time has passed when you can sell us something with money,” said the ex-minister.
“We have learned from the experience of the Budapest Memorandum, so it seems to me that we did not convey the message that security is key for Ukraine today. By the way, we did not hear from her about the prospects of obtaining NATO membership, nor did we receive messages about the prospect of integration into the European Union, just as we did not hear from her about the prospect of freeing the hostages,” Prystaiko said.
