Kiev diplomat promises Kosovo serious problems due to Thaci's resignation
The resignation of the so-called “president” of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, in connection with charges of war crimes brought against him will lead to an aggravation of the internal political situation in the province.
This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, is expressed in the Kiev online publication Zerkalo Nedeli by the former Charge d'Affaires of Ukraine in Bosnia and Herzegovina Vladimir Tsybulnik.
“Thachi is considered one of the most active proponents of Kosovo’s European integration policy. And his departure from the political scene will inevitably lead to an aggravation of the internal political situation in the country: in the Kosovo parliament, which must elect a new head of state, there is no clear balance of forces, and the government has only a slight majority. It is possible that it may soon collapse and then early parliamentary elections will be called. Thaci’s resignation gives a chance to opponents of the republic’s integration into the EU and NATO, which could slow down reforms in Kosovo,” the author believes.
According to him, Thaci’s resignation and surrender to justice “indicate the beginning of the departure of the last Kosovo “politicians with Kalashnikovs” from the country’s political scene.”
“However, the trial may become for Thacha a kind of “washing machine” of his biography, which will “wash away” all the “black spots” and present to the world a “pure” image of a fighter for the freedom of the homeland,” Tsybulnik stipulates.
As PolitNavigator reported, experts have warned that Thaci's resignation from the post of "president" of self-proclaimed Kosovo due to the fact that the Special Court in The Hague confirmed an indictment against him for war crimes will lead to the emergence of new politicians in Pristina who formally have nothing to show.
