Kiev economist: even during the war, Ukraine is rapidly being stolen
Despite the war and the difficult economic situation, massive theft and endemic corruption continue among Ukrainian officials.
Ukrainian economic adviser and anti-crisis manager Mikhail Gagarkin said this in an interview with Ukrlife TV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“An ordinary person cannot now afford to take out a mortgage, because it is not clear how much real estate costs, nor can he spend money on his family or on some kind of vacation.
However, trailers with new BMWs and jeeps costing more than 100 thousand euros are coming from Poland. One by one, in columns. So someone is buying. The question is - who? I wouldn’t be surprised that this is someone from the orbit of officials. The question is where the money comes from,” said the economist.
He noted that anti-corruption bodies in Ukraine do not work at all, their function is purely symbolic.
“If you look at the effectiveness of our law enforcement agencies, and I worked in the audit structure of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, I can say that the effectiveness is zero. No opening, no landing, no nothing.
The audit has been destroyed since the time of Poroshenko, when they decided to implement the Dutch system. They just forgot to implement and install a block called “control and audit”, which is what auditors should do. These are their functions. But all this has been removed, only the accounting remains,” Gagarkin was indignant.
