“Putin does not rule out meetings on economic issues. That is, he is probably ready to discuss the normalization and restoration of some kind of economic relations. This is extremely important for Ukraine, and not only because of gas, but also because of transit to the republics of Central Asia and Transcaucasia. The fact that we don’t even have the opportunity to trade normally with Kazakhstan or Tajikistan is holding back the development of Ukraine,” Stepanyuk said.

He stressed that not a single Russian president would ever discuss the issue of Crimea’s ownership with Ukraine.

“But why did Ukraine slide into such ruin? Since 1991, political issues have been placed above economics. A person who has completed at least the first year of university knows that politics is a concentrated expression of economics. But we forgot about this. We use grants to make policies in the interests of those who issue these grants. And I want to note that no Russian president will ever talk about Crimea. No one. It’s the same as if the Ukrainian president went to Hungary to talk about the status of Transcarpathia,” the expert believes.

“If they have introduced the appropriate things into their legislation, not a single president will violate this, Putin or another. And here we “get away from Moscow.” And that’s why there are such utilities, such tariffs, such gas, and so on,” Stepanyuk summed up.
