Ukrainian political scientist Nikolai Spiridonov stated this in his blog.
According to him, today, according to the UN, about 80% of Ukrainian citizens, with a salary of less than $150, live below the poverty line.
“In terms of the standard of living of the population, Ukraine is the poorest country even among the countries of the former USSR, not to mention Western Europe. The demographic catastrophe is also terrifying. Over the 25 years of independence, we have lost about 10 million people according to official statistics alone, and the real losses are even more terrible,” Spiridonov notes.
“Alas, while the minimum wage of Ukrainians is about 50 euros, all talk about a visa-free regime can be called hot air. We need real economic independence, without the humiliating knee-jerk begging for money from “Western partners,” the political scientist added.
