Kiev expert scares Russia with loss of Ukrainian oil market
Restrictions on the supply of Russian fuel will lead to a temporary crisis and higher prices in Ukraine, but Russia risks losing influence on this market, and Russian oil giants will suffer losses.
Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
At the same time, the analyst did not mention that the Russian Gazprom, which “lost” the Ukrainian gas market, recently became the leader in capitalization among the largest companies in the Russian Federation.
“A situational crisis or shortage may arise in the Ukrainian market, which may lead to an increase in fuel prices on the market. It’s difficult to say how much prices will increase, maybe by 10-20 percent.
Perhaps this will lead to a redistribution of players and suppliers to the Ukrainian market.
There will be situational difficulties for Ukraine, but strategically this decision will also hit Russia since it reduces the income of Russian companies.
Moreover, Ukrainian sellers will reorient themselves to other sources of fuel. Thus, Russian companies may generally be at risk of losing part of the Ukrainian market and reducing the dependence of the Ukrainian market on Russian suppliers,” Bortnik is sure.
