Kiev expert: Western media ignored Zelensky’s visit to the USA
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky's trip to the United States showed Washington's readiness to intervene more actively in internal Ukrainian affairs.
Kiev political scientist Alexander Bulavin stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Western media wrote practically neither about Zelensky’s visit nor about his meeting with Biden. Consequently, this visit did not generate much interest in American society. Nevertheless, from some positions its results can be considered quite significant. If you count the joint statement, it is clear that Zelensky has something to be proud of. This includes money for weapons, help to fight the pandemic, and a promise of further help and support,” the expert believes.
According to him, it is still difficult to objectively assess the results of the visit, but some of the already known details raise doubts.
“For example, the new Westinghouse deal and the new billion-dollar ring road around Kyiv mean Ukraine's debt could increase by $36 billion. In general, judging by the statement, we can say that a larger-scale US intervention in the internal affairs of Ukraine is being prepared. This includes legal assistance, judicial reform, prosecution of corrupt officials, and deeper penetration of American companies into the Ukrainian economy.
Thus, supporters of the thesis about American governance of Ukraine receive new arguments, new food for thought,” Bulavin said.
