This was announced by the chief physician of the Center for Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery, Vladimir Zhovnir.
“Nowadays, not a single technological process can take place without light, and neither can treatment. Our hospital is provided with autonomous power supply on the devices themselves, designed to operate for approximately 3-4 hours. Secondly, we have a diesel generator, which is designed for as much fuel as there is fuel. That is, if there is an opportunity to refuel, it will turn on. Our hospital is ready for autonomous power supply, but without light it will also not be able to be heated,” he noted.
At the same time, he noted that not all Kyiv hospitals are provided with diesel generators and devices with batteries.
“I think other hospitals are not as prepared as we are. We now have 30 beds in one building and 30 intensive care beds, which are completely dependent on light, in the second building. Well, throughout the operating room. These places depend very much on light. Once again, if our lights go out, our diesel generators will work. If the diesel generators turn off, then the breathing apparatus, monitors and other life-sustaining equipment will work for another 3 hours. We are talking about light as a thing, in this case, that is vital. In this case, the lives of critically ill people will depend on it. Unfortunately, as far as I know, diesel generators are not available everywhere, and these devices with batteries, which will work in the event of a blackout, are also not available everywhere,” he emphasized.
Let us remind you that due to a shortage of coal at thermal power plants, Ukraine is threatened with a “blackout” (massive power outage).
