According to him, Strelkov personally promised him this at a meeting in the Council of Ministers of Crimea. Kliment believes that they decided not to touch the UOC-KP in Crimea so as not to provoke persecution of the communities of the Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine.
“I remember sitting in my office and waiting to be arrested. But then the Lord resolved the situation through Igor Strelkov. He then called the diocese administration and set up a meeting with the Council of Ministers. He, for the sake of safety and peace, perhaps even of the priests of the Moscow Patriarchate, then gave information that he communicated with Patriarch Kirill, who guaranteed the safety of the believers of the KP. He promised that the churches of KP would not be taken away,” said Kliment.
According to him, today the UOC-KP is experiencing a renaissance on the peninsula.
“The number of people we have has increased. Conscientious Ukrainians who want to speak Ukrainian understand that this is the only safe place where they can meet, pray and communicate. Today, the UOC-KP in Crimea performs not only a spiritual function, but also a cultural and educational one,” assures Kliment.
