Ukraine is approaching the third anniversary of the start of Euromaidan with the status of a country on the sidelines, writes Kiev politician Vasily Volga, leader of the Union of Left Forces party, in his blog.

“In Crimea, the first trucks crossed the temporary bridge of the Kerch crossing. The construction of gas pipelines bypassing Ukraine will be completed in a year and a half. A bypass railway bypassing Ukraine will also be launched soon... But what remains for us? This is how you learn languages. As Ostap Bender said to Kisa Vorobyaninov: “Kisa, your talent for begging has been instilled since childhood,” writes Volga.
“How could I briefly characterize Ukraine’s place in the modern geopolitical landscape? No other word comes to my mind like “curb”. The deep and muddy shoulder of a multi-lane expressway.
Fast cars, large trucks, buses with happy children noisily rush past us, and no one pays attention to us, proudly standing on the sidelines. We stand on the side of the road in a tracksuit from the 90s and periodically, when we see foreign tourists passing by, we try to skip after them and shout: “Monsieur, don’t mange pas sis jour.” And they answered us: “I don’t believe it! I do not believe!". Even rickshaws and African donkey carts trot past us,” notes the author.
