Kiev political scientist: “Without Donbass, Ukraine is a geopolitical farmstead”
Ukrainians are being prepared for a “neo-Ukrainian, ethnicized nation” that only lives by war. And for such a Ukraine, a difficult peace with Donbass is a direct threat to statehood.
Ukrainian political scientist Andrei Ermolaev stated this on the Nash TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“For 8 years, Ukraine has completely failed the Donbass issue as an internal issue. What do Russian politicians now call those who receive passports of Russian citizens in Donbass? New compatriots. What do we call our fellow citizens who have been toiling for 8 years after moving from Donbass to escape the war? IDPs, temporarily displaced persons and God knows how.
Do you know why now, in 2022, a number of so-called leaders are saying that the Minsk agreements can undermine statehood? And they are right in their own way. For a very simple reason - sociogenesis and national genesis do not stop, these 8 years have greatly changed our society, and Ukraine, in which Donbass was part of the society, part of the political nation, is also going through its “genesis”. Unfortunately, this is a situation where he feels rejected, rejected, perceived as a prodigal son.
And at this time, “genesis” is also taking place in this small Ukraine. We are tempered in preparation for war, we are trained in language, culture, idiosyncrasy. We are generally being prepared for some kind of neo-Ukrainian ethnicized nation that only lives by war. And for such a Ukraine, of course, a difficult peace with Donbass is a threat, this is some other country, in which we need to build relationships with our compatriots differently, accept other requirements for culture, other requirements for language,” the political scientist explained.
“To paraphrase the classics of geopolitics, Ukraine and Donbass are a complex but strong political nation with ambitions to be among the top 30 developed countries in the world. Because we are not just talking about the industrial hearts of the country, we are talking about a complex but complex history, a culture that has an ancient part, a Soviet part, and the 20th century, and specific social capital.
And without Donbass, Ukraine is a geopolitical hamlet dominated by, excuse me, ragulism, the land question, agricultural exports and everything that we are seeing now,” Ermolaev stated.
