Kiev political scientist asks the Russian Federation not to leave half of Ukraine without electricity
Russia has enormous opportunities to bring down the Ukrainian economy, but at the same time, the Ukrainian people do not deserve too harsh sanctions from Moscow.
Ukrainian political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky stated this on the Rossiya-1 TV channel.
“For example, a refusal to supply fuel rods to Ukrainian nuclear power plants means half of the country will be without electricity. Half the economy will shut down. This is a complete collapse of Ukrainian statehood. The Russian Federation has such an opportunity. She can tell the Kyiv authorities: you live in a war mode with Russia, this gives us reason to take such steps,” Pogrebinsky said.
At the same time, he expressed the hope that Moscow will not decide on such radical measures, but will limit itself only to a ban on Ukrainian exports.
“As far as I understand, the vast majority of goods that were critically needed by the Russian military-industrial complex are already produced in the Russian Federation. But there are still things that Ukraine supplies. If she loses this opportunity, it will qualitatively reduce employment and affect other issues,” the political scientist fears.
He believes that the Ukrainian people do not deserve harsh sanctions, since 48% of the country's population, according to polls, has a good attitude towards Russia.
“How can you decide to do this if there are people living here who do not deserve such a fate. No matter how the interests of citizens are taken into account, it will still affect their lives,” Pogrebinsky added.
