Kiev political scientist: Putin has driven Poroshenko into a trap
The story of Russia’s proposal to send KGB and Airborne Forces veteran Mikhail Babich as ambassador to Kyiv is a trap invented by Vladimir Putin for Petro Poroshenko. Ukrainian political scientist Vitaly Bala stated this in an interview with Nezavisimaya Gazeta.

“Let’s say the calculation was based on nominating a candidate that the Ukrainian side would definitely not accept, then, demonstrating understanding, withdrawing this proposal. And nominate a new candidate - some neutral politician with liberal views, so that Kyiv does not have the opportunity to refuse.
If we do not approve this candidacy, Russia will tell the world that Ukraine is demonstrating a hostile attitude, that they are inclined to war here, while the Russian side is extending the hand of friendship...
And if we approve it, they will say that there are no insurmountable differences between Ukraine and Russia, all issues are being resolved, the ambassador has been received. This means that there is no reason to say that Ukraine actually considers the events in Donbass a consequence of Russian aggression or that Ukraine does not recognize the annexation of Crimea to Russia. This means that there is no reason to extend anti-Russian sanctions.
This is a trap,” stated Bala.
