Kiev political scientist: “NATO standards in Afghanistan have fallen like a house of cards”
The situation in Afghanistan showed what American patronage and so-called NATO standards lead to.
Ukrainian political scientist Alexey Yakubin stated this on the Nash TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We’ve been building something for 20 years, but in a few weeks it’s all gone, like a house of cards. Trillions of dollars boldly. In essence, we saw a colossal gap between the country's proxy leadership and the majority of Afghan citizens. Plus the failure of a kind of global solidarity. Notice how countries are now thinking about what to do next with Afghanistan. If there are thousands or tens of thousands of refugees, that’s also a question,” the expert said.
“In our context, there is a very interesting point about NATO. Because we very often like to say “an army according to NATO standards” and so on. In Afghanistan, the 300 thousand Afghan army was built according to NATO standards for 20 years. Where is this army? She disappeared. The fall of the regime. We must also draw a definite conclusion here. The NATO joint center was located in the government quarter, already captured by the Taliban. That is, this is very significant. It turns out that this is a challenge for both the United States and a challenge for NATO, because they were active participants in this process,” Yakubin said.
