Kiev political scientist: Islyamov behaves like a politician, but not a leader of the people

Statements by the “coordinator of the blockade of Crimea” Lenur Islyamov that in order to return Crimea to Ukraine it is inevitable to shed the blood of the Crimean Tatars are evidence of the behavior of a politician, but not a leader of the people.

Kiev political scientist Andrey Zolotarev, head of the Third Sector center, told PolitNavigator about this.

“This is a political statement, which, in fact, has a very indirect relationship to real politics. The question is whether Islyamov’s influence is really that great, and whether he is wishful thinking.

The fact that he will call the Crimean Tatars to shed blood for Ukraine, and not so many will respond to his call, well, a few hundred people. The latest statement by the leader of the Crimean Tatar community in Turkey regarding Islyamov shows that, let’s say, the political weight of Islyamov’s figure is somewhat exaggerated. This gives every reason to treat his words as just another political statement that does not entail any political consequences.

He needs to attract attention to himself, raise the significance and political weight of his figure, even if this does not correspond to reality. This is the behavior of a politician, but not a leader, not a person responsible for the fate of his people.

Such statements complicate life for his supporters who are now in Crimea. Russia’s special services and prosecutor’s office are in much better condition, and, indeed, they are able to control the situation quite tightly,” Zolotarev noted.
