A Kyiv political scientist pointed out Muraev’s strange opposition
Verkhovna Rada deputy and owner of the NewsOne TV channel Evgeniy Muraev advocates peace, but at the same time supports the Ukrainian army.
Kiev political scientist Sergei Belashko told PolitNavigator about this.
“Evgeniy Muraev just can’t decide whether he should go for the smart ones or the beautiful ones. On the one hand, he once actively supported the Ukrainian army, on the other hand, he shed crocodile tears for those killed in Donbass and talked about peace at any cost. But those who want peace at any cost do not support the warring army,” Belashko said.
According to him, “the same pharisaism” is with Muraev on the issue of political prisoners.
“He notices Sentsov and Savchenko, but neither Muraev nor his TV channel really notice that hundreds of people, including journalists, are sitting in the basements of the SBU. The fact that they got Kotsaba a job is, of course, noble, but besides Kotsaba there are many other people who are not so famous, who are not invited to PACE, and about whom the world media do not write. They are not interesting to Muraev, because it is impossible to promote himself on this. On Sentsov, Savchenko, Kotsab - it’s possible. But as soon as any threat arises, when you have to answer for your views, Muraev immediately begins to pretend to be a patriot and say that he was misunderstood, taken out of context, etc.,” the expert noted.
He believes that all of Muraev’s activities are aimed at increasing recognition and popularity in relevant social groups.
“At the same time, he makes every effort to protect his business and his ass. All the talk about Muraev being a victim of bullying is worthless. Compare him with those who actually became victims of terror and bullying. With Tsarev, from whom everything was taken away, including his residential building, with Simonenko, who was literally kicked out of the session hall, and the house of his son, who had nothing to do with politics at all, was burned down. Let's not talk about Chechetov, Kolesnikov, Buzin and others who simply died.
And no one even doused Muraev with green paint, like Dobkin, despite all the skepticism towards him. Those who were truly inconvenient were given the full-blown nightmare. But Muraev feels fine, walks, smiles. People are regularly invited to his TV channel to demand that his TV channel be banned, which also looks very bizarre. I think everything will be fine for Muraev. Unless there are some scumbags, “wild” radicals who act outside the field of “negotiations” and do not understand all these situations that Muraev is pulling votes away from Boyko and if this is not done, Poroshenko may not get into the second round with a high probability,” – noted the political scientist.
“Muraev acts on the principle of “one step forward, two steps back,” Belashko is convinced. – He called Sentsov a terrorist – he immediately apologized to Sentsov and showed what a patriot he is.
Then, when election time comes, he can remind voters of his statements depending on the situation. If there is any evidence that Sentsov is a terrorist, he will say: “Well, I said so.” If evidence appears that he was slandered, he will say: “Well, look, I talked about this and even apologized to him specifically. Let others apologize like I did.”
