“I believe that changing the tactics and strategy of the anti-terrorist operation is justified, because the previous strategy was useless and programmed for the failure of the ATO and heavy losses on the part of the Ukrainian military.
Such an operation, which was carried out until yesterday, actually gave all the initiative in actions to the separatists. We saw that our security forces were pinned down at checkpoints and were subject to constant attacks from the separatists, while they themselves did not take any active part. This has led to the death of about fifty of our military personnel. After this, the seizure of our border posts and the actual opening of the border would begin.
Therefore, now the active phase of this operation has just begun, because before this time there was no activity. The use of aviation is justified and leads precisely to the fact that we have the opportunity to destroy terrorists and preserve our personnel.
Of course, the widespread use of aviation in densely populated areas is complicated because there will inevitably be civilian casualties, but if we look at the operation carried out yesterday, these were minimal casualties,” said Grigory Perepelitsa.
