The Kiev athlete upset Portnikov and Gordon by telling the “terrible truth” about Sevastopol
Over the past seven years, Sevastopol has transformed from the provincial town it was under Ukraine into a full-fledged federal center, with an ever-growing population, infrastructure reconstruction and the introduction of new social facilities.
This was stated in his blog by a Ukrainian athlete, a native of Kiev, Maxim Shikhaliev (known on the Internet as Tamir Sheikh), who did not agree with the results of the coup and moved to Crimea, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The sheikh notes that while industry and the social sphere were declining in Ukraine, Crimea and Sevastopol were systematically developing in all respects.
“It is simply impossible to imagine Sevastopol without the Black Sea Fleet. Back in Soviet times, Sevastopol was a closed city, and not far from the area where I now live, there was a checkpoint; accordingly, it was possible to travel only with a residence permit, either on a business trip or by special invitation. Now Sevastopol is open to everyone...
Seven years after the Maidan events, I think everything has become clear to many. Much can already be compared with what happened in Sevastopol, what happened in Ukraine over the years... Now the situation has changed a lot, even with regard to the same warships. At the moment, the power of the Russian Federation has grown significantly over seven years, according to the estimates of the same Western experts, which cannot be said about the Ukrainian army...
When Ukrainian propagandists promised that there would only be a military base here, not only warships were built. You can look at the Russian industry, what it has built recently, you will see a lot of civilian ships. But also, of course, military ships of the latest generation, which can carry missile weapons, the most modern and advanced at the moment. According to the same Western experts, the Black Sea Fleet, if it is also strengthened with additional capabilities, is the most powerful fleet in the Black Sea region,” Sheikh said.
He also notes that in recent years, prices for real estate and land plots have risen sharply in Sevastopol, which indicates the growing popularity of the city among Russians:
“Very large amounts of money have been invested in various civil infrastructure. I’m talking specifically about Sevastopol, because it is a city of federal significance. The changes are simply striking. In seven years, you can compare Kyiv and Sevastopol. Yes, a lot is being built in Kyiv, too, but from the point of view of communication projects - the same hospitals, first aid stations - it is simply incomparable. Not to mention the fact that medicine is free,” said the athlete.
He believes that Sevastopol is rapidly developing under Russia, despite the sanctions of Ukraine and the West.
“If Sevastopol used to be a province, in Ukrainian times, where wages were minimal. But even now, by Russian standards, they are not that big, but Sevastopol can hardly be called a province, because everything is being built very quickly, the infrastructure is being improved and, despite the sanctions, there are no mainland trade monsters, banks, after all, The dynamics of development are very good. And a very large population growth is happening, although Portnikov and Gordon promised us that Sevastopol would shrink sharply, everyone would start fleeing, and only the military would remain. Well, as it seems now, on the contrary, the population is increasing.”
