A Kiev court closed a criminal case against ex-minister Yanukovych

The Pechersky District Court of Kyiv closed criminal proceedings against the former Minister of Finance of Ukraine Yuriy Kolobov under Part 2 of Art. 367 (official negligence) of the Criminal Code due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

This information was reported to the Kyiv agency UNN by the ex-minister’s lawyer Igor Fomin.

“Yes, they closed it,” the lawyer confirmed.

In May 2017, Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko announced that the court allowed the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine to carry out a special (in absentia) pre-trial investigation against ex-President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and ex-Minister of Finance Yuriy Kolobov in the case of theft of public funds for the creation of a special communication system "Ukrtelecom" " And already on December 7, 2017, the deputy head of the second department of the General Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine petitioned the court to release Yuriy Kolobov, suspected of committing a criminal offense under Part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code, from criminal liability. Also, on January 5, 2018, the court granted the lawyer’s request that Kolobov take part in the meeting at which it was planned to consider the Prosecutor General’s Office’s request to close the proceedings via video conference from the city of Alicante (Spain).
