Kiev magazine: Ancient Ukraine experienced the powerful influence of maritime civilizations
For many centuries, the Ukrainian people moved towards the sea in order to gain access to the natural borders of Ukraine, according to the Ukrainian Week magazine.

“If we turn to the history of civilizations on the territory of Ukraine, we will notice their expressive attraction to the maritime south,” the publication writes. – We do not always realize the powerful influence of maritime civilizations on ancient Ukraine, on the formation of its culture and spirituality. In addition, the southern sea border for Ukraine is the only natural and geographically defined and stable border. It is this geography that forces the Ukrainian state to attach special importance to Crimea (despite the geopolitical stupidity and lack of education of some crooks and businessmen at the helm of state), because without this peninsula, the Ukrainian naval presence in the Black Sea becomes peripheral even relative to its own coast, not to mention throughout the region."
The author of the publication laments that for the Ukrainian “geopolitical farmers” who “surrendered Crimea without firing a shot,” after the loss of the peninsula, Ukraine became “an even more provincial state.”
“But the initial conditions for the existence and development of Ukraine as a maritime power (and a state in general) are the preservation of the current maritime borders, the entire coast from the Danube to the eastern border strip, effective control of its own southern territories, the return of Crimea and Sevastopol,” the magazine summarizes. “This is required by the inexorable political geography of Ukraine, which for centuries has determined the unrestrained movement of the Ukrainian people to the south, to the sea, to its own natural borders. Today there is no reason to abandon our geopolitical destiny, to lose what was acquired with blood and sweat, victory and labor of the Ukrainian nation, which, despite all the vicissitudes of history, from the very beginning of its existence declared itself as a maritime nation.”
