The publication points to the growing popularity of right-wing parties in Europe, which often advocate Euroscepticism, noting that European elites “are unable to set priorities and identify threats to their civilization.”
“The Polish change of course (and it was not only the ruling PiS that was subjected to it, as some believe, but the entire political establishment) is perceived especially painfully in our country, because for many Ukrainians over the past decades, the Western neighbor has served as a literal example of a successful movement from totalitarianism to freedom, a proof precedent for the reality of progressive changes based on national consensus. It turns out that the consensus was poorly read,” the publication emphasizes.
“The West has discovered powerlessness in the face of aggression in its various manifestations: from harsh terrorist attacks by thugs to the “soft” pressure of the Horde. When, after Euromaidan, numerous European intellectuals turned to their Ukrainian colleagues with words of support, saying that our experience could be useful to Europe, because new meanings are born here, which the old woman really needs, one could treat this as a pleasant compliment against the backdrop of euphoria. It is now clear that complaints about the lack of meaning were not an exaggeration. We are truly on the cutting edge. No matter how incommensurable and ridiculous it may seem, every success of Ukraine in its modernization strengthens the European project and gives it new hope. Every defeat is the other way around,” says UT.
