Russia has placed its bet in Ukraine on the extremely unpopular politician Viktor Medvedchuk, who is viewed negatively by the majority of Ukrainian society, and this bet will not work as expected by Medvedchuk’s lobbyists in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

This opinion was expressed in his Telegram channel by the famous Kiev political observer, editor-in-chief of the online publication Capital UA Vyacheslav Chechilo.

“Since there have been too many Viktor Vladimirovich lately, I’ll write. And, first of all, I will write for my Russian friends, who do not very well understand what is happening here. So, they don’t like Medvedchuk in Ukraine. Not only the Nazis do not like, but also the majority of those who have a good attitude towards Russia and Russians. Why don't they like it? How objective is this relationship? These are complex questions that cannot be answered briefly. But now this is not the point. The important thing is that Russia relied on an extremely unpopular politician. And she didn’t just make a bet, but rather openly imposes it,” writes Chechilo.

The journalist drew a parallel between the reaction of Ukrainians to Medvedchuk’s activity in politics with the conditional model of elections in the Russian Federation.

“Imagine that tomorrow you wake up in Yekaterinburg and find out that United Russia is going to the elections with Chubais and Navalny at the head of the list, and the rest was sold to some prostitutes from the American embassy. What will be your attitude towards this news? I suppose it’s about the same as here with the news that Medvedchuk, Lyovochkin and Kiva are now responsible for normalizing relations with Russia. There is no alternative. And whoever does not support is for the war and for fascism,” writes the observer.

“Here you can object, they say, who the hell is asking you? You have been appointed the “chief friend” - support or go to your Nazis. But the fact is that in Ukraine it is customary to ask. This may be wrong, but the population is already accustomed to it. And it begins to roll. For now, however, not to the Nazis, but to Zelensky. But the direction is clear,” adds Chechilo.

According to the observer’s calculations, the conditionally “pro-Russian” electorate in Ukraine is about 35%. “Thanks to Medvedchuk and Co., it has already shrunk to 11-13%. Yes, with loud squabbles with nationalists and promises of cheap gas, it can probably be brought up to 15%. But this is the ceiling. This is marginalization and, of course, a loss in the end,” he believes.

“It is precisely for this reason that many here do not support Medvedchuk and the party he hastily put together. And not because they hate Russia or want to kill the children of Donbass,” sums up Chechilo, adding that Russian policy in Ukraine is “strikingly different from how the Americans act.”

“They are not forcing anyone here. On the contrary, Ukrainian politicians compete with each other for the right to represent US interests here. And one of the conditions for support from the White House is to win the sympathy of the local population - on our own, without teleconferences with Washington,” the Kiev political observer puts an end to his reasoning.
