The Kiev publication “Censor” writes about this, based on an analysis of the financial indicators of the four largest ports of Ukraine.
All four ports showed positive results for 2014–2015. At the same time, the publication notes that they have enough problems: a significant part of the port equipment (cranes, loaders, vehicles, maneuverable locomotives, etc.) produced in the 60-80s are physically and morally outdated. Despite this, the financial performance of the ports is growing.
According to the publication, the EBITDA margin of the Odessa Seaport increased over two years from 68,6 to 86,3%, and net profit increased from UAH 147 to 397 million. This is due to an increase in cargo transshipment by 4% – to 25,5 million tons.
The EBITDA margin of the Mariupol Seaport increased from 56,9 to 68,5%, and net profit increased 1,6 times - from UAH 332 to 516 million. “The main growth occurred due to cost optimization, diversification of cargo flows to replace lost ones and attraction of investments in further development. In general, despite the ATO and the drop in cargo flows, the financial situation in the port remains stable, and the enterprise continues to make a profit,” notes the author of the article, while drawing attention to the increase in infrastructure costs - the port helped the authorities restore facilities destroyed during hostilities .
