Kyiv needs to bow to Donbass, not to the West - expert
Ukraine needs to offer its own model for the reintegration of Donbass. The country will be obliged to provide the region with a special status and an amnesty - without these key points, the republics will not return to Ukraine.
Political scientist Andrei Ermolaev stated this on the NASH TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We need to legislate the political formula and modality of Donbass within Ukraine, which will suit the residents of Donbass and who will be ready to participate in the peace process.
Otherwise, all this is not worth a damn. And, most likely, this is some kind of autonomy option. If all this does not happen, it will be all blah blah, which will ultimately end in the failure of the peacekeeping policy, and “Plan B” is Poroshenkoism, only from the side.
If, God forbid, they fail the diplomatic round and present this to society as someone’s ill will, and this is their failure, their inexperience.
And having lost the chance in the fall of 2019 for the peacemaking process, and there is this chance, and everyone is broadcasting to Mr. Zelensky: “Negotiate, sign and start, just agree in society,” that it just won’t work out with Donbass, some kind of election modality is needed and feature of status.
If you play these street games and indulge the nationalists, then you will, firstly, be in crisis and, secondly, Donbass will not return.
Because they will never support Kyiv in Donbass, where they will walk the streets with these banners...
It is necessary to formulate and put forward your proposal related to the status of Donbass, the option of administrative-territorial reform, logistics, the sequence of demilitarization of the region, to decide whether we need mediators-peacekeepers related to law enforcement problems, or we can cope on our own, or there will be a third civilian force , solve the problem of amnesty,” Ermolaev listed.
