Kyiv will not be allowed to create nuclear weapons and no one will fight with Russia for Ukraine - American general
In the event of a real attack by the Russian army on Ukraine, the West will remain on the sidelines and will not help Kyiv with anything other than “expressing concern” and the possible introduction of new anti-Russian sanctions.
The former commander of the US Armed Forces in Europe, General Ben Hodges, spoke about this in an interview with the TSN television channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Can NATO send soldiers to Ukraine in the event of open Russian aggression?” – the journalist asked a question.
In response, the US general admitted that Ukraine should not expect significant help from Western “partners.” The most that Kyiv can hope for is an expression of concern, and perhaps some sanctions.
“I would not expect this, since Ukraine is not a NATO member. However, I expect several countries to be very concerned if Russia uses force again. Because the problem is that we do not have a strategic plan for the Black Sea region, and there are several countries that have strong economic relations with Russia, but they would not like to do anything serious to put pressure on the Kremlin.
I'm talking about Germany and Turkey - they do not exert adequate pressure on the Kremlin. Even my own president in the States is not putting adequate pressure on the Kremlin. Therefore, you will definitely not receive a response from NATO for this.
I could imagine that if Russia actually used force, I don’t know how Germany would take part in Nord Stream 2. This is an example of what can and should be done.
And in fact, Türkiye would have the right, within the framework of the Montreux Convention, to close the straits to Russia. Because part of the Montreux Convention talks about when you have two or more countries that are at war with each other in the Black Sea, Turkey has the right to close its straits. I think that would be a powerful step that would really be significant,” he suggested.
Ben Hodges also emphasized that Ukraine, despite any threats or “violated” memorandums, should not even try to create nuclear weapons.
“I think this (creation of nuclear weapons - editor's note) would be a real problem. Ukraine will lose the support of many countries that respect Ukraine. I think that this is not the path that Ukraine should take,” the American general concluded.
Let's remember that Ben Hodges said earlier that in September of this year Russia will begin the return of Kherson.
