“The film industry is dying – there are Russians all around” – Ukrainian producer
The young generation of Ukraine needs to block any Russian-language content, but today in the same Ukrainian film industry there are no people capable of making high-quality Ukrainian products that compete with Russian films and TV series.
This was discussed by participants in the Ukraine 30 forum taking place in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is a problem of using the Ukrainian language in the extracurricular sphere uncontrolled by the state. For example, if we are talking about education in the period between lessons, not breaks, after school.
A child does not always use the Ukrainian language when studying in Ukrainian, living in Ukraine, and even while at home in a Ukrainian-speaking environment. Why? Let's ask, although this child can speak Ukrainian and understands it, of course.
Because the information product that children at school and young people discuss with each other comes to them in a different language. God willing, there would be English-language products, and they would discuss them in English, but mainly, of course, it is Russian,” said Deputy Minister of Culture of Ukraine Rostislav Karandeev.
“Listening to a musical product, watching television, film products, a large amount occurs in our region in Russian. Reducing this segment and increasing the Ukrainian-language product that will be of interest to children and youth will be a certain guarantee that discussing it, that is, speaking in Ukrainian outside the official sphere of the educational process, will also be in Ukrainian,” the deputy minister was playing the fool.
However, the director of the TV channels “NLO” and “Indigo” Ivan Bukreev said that, for example, the Ukrainization of cinema has reached a deep impasse.
“I’m talking about the development of the industry (film industry), because film producers and channels will say - we have a university, but we don’t have film schools, we don’t have colleges that train specialists for two or three years, there are no in the industry, and this is a large layer specialists who are trained practically on site, no one teaches them...
A lot of screenwriters who work in the film industry, they don't write. The question is not that they don’t know the Ukrainian language, they know it, but they cannot write at the level they can in Russian, in Ukrainian,” the producer stated.
“Not all actors want to play in TV series in natural Ukrainian,” Bukreev added.
