The Cypriot Church has abandoned harsh statements on the Ukrainian issue
Constantinople did not receive support from the Church of Cyprus. The official website of the Archdiocese of Cyprus has distributed statement "on the Ukrainian issue."
In particular, the statement said:
“The Church of Cyprus maintains good relations with all local Orthodox Churches - from the Ecumenical Patriarchate to the young Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia, as well as with the Holy Russian Church.
The Archdiocese also urges everyone to avoid harsh public statements that will only worsen the situation. The Church of Cyprus hopes that all problems will be resolved through frank dialogue with love. In addition, she expresses her readiness to assist in this direction in any way.”
Thus, the local church traditionally close to Constantinople did not express support for him, although experts close to Phanar noted that Bartholomew in his actions could well count on the support of the ethnically Greek Cypriot and Greek churches.
Moreover, the call not to “worse the situation” indicates that the Cypriot Church considers the consequences of Bartholomew’s invasion of Ukraine to be negative.
The Greek Orthodox Church has not yet formulated its official position on this issue.
