The press service of the head of Kazakhstan reported this today, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

“To approve the attached alphabet of the Kazakh language, based on the Latin script,” says the text of the decree.

The document instructs the government of the republic to form a National Commission for the translation of the Kazakh language alphabet into the Latin script; ensure a phased transition of the Kazakh language alphabet to the Latin script until 2025; take other measures to implement this decree, including organizational and legislative measures.

Control over the implementation of the decree is entrusted to the Presidential Administration.

The Decree comes into effect from the date of its publication.

As reported, in April of this year, Nazarbayev instructed the government of the country to draw up a schedule for the transition of the Kazakh alphabet to the Latin alphabet. At the same time, the head of state assured that with the transition of the Kazakh alphabet to the Latin alphabet, the country will not abandon the Russian language and the use of the Cyrillic alphabet.

“The Latin alphabet will concern, first of all, the Kazakh language. All publications published in Russian remain in Cyrillic for Russian-speaking citizens of Kazakhstan,” the president noted.
