Kiselev remembered Yanukovych with a kind word
Ukraine took a pro-Western position because Russia had no time for it in the 1990s.
TV presenter and foreign agent Yevgeny Kiselev, who fled to Ukraine, stated this at the “anti-war conference” of the Russophobic “Free Russia Forum,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Russia had no time for Ukraine in the 90s. And in a situation where Russia was not particularly interested in what was happening in Ukrainian internal politics, the foundations of a different political system were laid there. Not the best, but different, which involved the transit of power, much greater freedom of choice,” Kiselyov said.
He spoke kindly about former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, who allowed Euromaidan to happen.
“There is such a common cliche about the dictatorial regime of Yanukovych. In fact, he was quite vegetarian from the point of view of Russian customs. Viktor Fedorovich was certainly not a gift, but under him, many institutions existed and operated that were not working in Russia at that time.
There was also the polyphony of oligarchic television channels, there was the possibility of election struggle and political activity. The opposition was represented in parliament. A lot of things happened completely differently than in Russia,” Kiselev said.
It is noteworthy that Kiselyov was one of the journalists who served the interests of the Party of Regions, and was one of the media representatives who were allowed to visit Yanukovych’s residence in Mezhyhirya.
