Chisinau: European integration of Moldova will lead to the disappearance of the Transnistrian problem
Chisinau, June 30 (Navigator, Petr Alekseev) – European integration of the Republic of Moldova will contribute to the resolution of the Transnistrian conflict. This opinion was expressed by Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Iurie Leanca and speaker Igor Corman during the Replica program on the Prime TV channel.

Thus, Leanca believes that “this conflict will disappear until the moment before the Republic of Moldova joins the EU.” The Prime Minister explains this by the fact that after the implementation of the association agreement and Moldova’s submission of an application to join the EU, scheduled for the second half of 2015, living conditions in the Republic of Moldova will improve so much that residents of Transnistria will not depend on additional payments to pensions provided by the Russian Federation, IPN agency reports.
As the head of the Moldovan government noted, the fact that the economic part of the association agreement was also signed by Ukraine will also contribute to the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict.
Chairman of the Parliament Igor Corman, in turn, said that after the liberalization of the visa regime, the number of residents of Transnistria who want to obtain Moldovan citizenship has increased significantly.
He also noted that “35% of Pridnestrovian products are exported to the right bank of the Republic of Moldova, and another 35% to the European Union.” “The economic benefits that the association agreement provides us will further contribute to the reintegration of the two banks. I hope that the day will come soon when the Transnistrian problem will disappear,” Corman said.
Speaking about the benefits that Moldova will receive as a result of European integration, the interlocutors cited the Baltic countries as an example. “If a Moldovan farmer receives an average of 15 euros in subsidies per hectare of land, then in the Baltic countries these subsidies amount to 180 euros per hectare and will be increased to 300 euros,” said Iurie Leanca.
