According to him, at the council meeting, Moldova planned to raise the issue of economic restrictions imposed by Moscow on products from the Republic of Moldova, and even received support for this initiative from the Russian side, but still could not implement its plan.
According to the CIS charter, a meeting of the economic council can be convened at the initiative of any member country, supported by three other states. Chisinau was able to find understanding only from Moscow and Minsk.
“This was an initiative that we tried to materialize through the convening of an emergency meeting of the CIS Economic Council. To do this we needed the support of at least three member countries. Unfortunately, several partners from Central Asia felt that this meeting could not take place for various reasons, including the fact that the next meeting should be held on September 26, and we can discuss this issue there in Moscow. And our partners from Russia and Belarus were more flexible on this issue,” said Kiver, quoted by noi.md.
