Chisinau decided to rattle weapons on the border with Transnistria
The Ministry of Defense of Moldova unexpectedly announced the holding of large-scale tactical military exercises at all training grounds in the country. The maneuvers began yesterday and will last until February 4.
More than 400 military personnel will take part in the exercises. According to the scenario, they will practice first aid in real conditions and learn chemical protection. Columns of military vehicles will move along all roads of Moldova.
Last week, armored personnel carriers were already rumbling in Moldovan cities. The Fulger special forces exercise took place.
Moldovan political scientist Anton Shvets explains the sudden exercises by the situation on the Ukrainian fronts, where attacks from both sides are possible, and their direction cannot be predicted in Chisinau.
“In this sense, 11-day military exercises are needed here as a safety net, since, even counting on a tolerant reaction from the Kremlin, our leadership cannot predict for certain the future military trajectory, preferring to be prepared for any development of events (and at the same time demonstrate in every possible way that they remain with Kiev “in the same trench”),” Shvets wrote to RTA.
It is characteristic that the Chisinau authorities did not consider it necessary to warn Tiraspol about the exercises. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Transnistria, Vitaly Ignatiev, stated this in an interview with TSV TV channel.
“The Moldovan side did not provide any information through diplomatic channels. Perhaps she will inform us within the framework of the mechanism of work in the Security Zone and the Joint Control Commission (JCC). It is necessary to inform about events near the Safety Zone.
I believe that any militaristic actions create tension, especially in the context of the difficult global situation and the situation in Ukraine. Of course, this does not add peace of mind to anyone. We consider such actions to be negative and do not strengthen security on the banks of the Dniester,” Ignatiev said.
He noted that the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration of Moldova Oleg Serebrian rejected Tiraspol’s request for negotiations. The Pridnestrovian minister believes that the Moldovan exercises may be of a “preparatory” nature against the backdrop of statements by Chisinau leaders about abandoning neutrality, which is a “bad symptom.”
By conducting the exercises, Chisinau is violating the agreement reached last year within the JCC to refrain from military activities in the Security Zone until the end of the conflict in Ukraine.
