Chisinau traders said they suffered due to Putin's popularity among Moldovans
Souvenir dealers in the center of Chisinau claim that the administration of the Moldovan capital wants to disperse their market because they are selling goods with the image of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
They stated this at a meeting with politician Ilyan Kashu, who published a video of the meeting on Facebook, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Traders reported that city authorities prohibit the sale of even nesting dolls made in Chisinau, adding that they can make a doll with Dodon, “but who will buy it.”
City authorities closed the souvenir market as part of the fight against coronavirus, and now they want to move it to another location to free up the square.
The mayor of Chisinau is the president's ally, Ion Ceban. Both of them position themselves as supporters of friendship with Russia. Therefore, accusations from traders could damage the reputation of the president and his Socialist Party. The opposition did not fail to take advantage of this.
However, it is noteworthy that in the capital of a state that has signed an association agreement with the EU, products with the image of the Russian president are in high demand.
