Blockade of Transnistrian enterprises by Moldovan banks may be associated with the latest initiatives of Moldovan President Igor Dodon, who proposed that the unrecognized republic return to the control of Chisinau with the rights of a special autonomous status.

This assumption was expressed on the First Transnistrian TV Channel by the vice-president of the Union of Agrarians, Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Transnistria, Yuri Cheban, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The engagement with the banks appeared at the moment when Dodon’s comrades are offering some kind of special, I apologize, status for our Transnistria. I think this coincidence is very interesting. Offering to kiss and at the same time doing nasty things to your counterpart is an absolute clinic. Moldova is simply jealous of Pridnestrovie, because in quite difficult conditions we are stabilizing our economy and developing,” said Ceban.

Foreign Minister of Transnistria Igor Ignatiev is also inclined to believe that the banking crisis was inspired by the Moldovan authorities. He draws attention to the fact that Vasily Shova, who had previously dealt with these problems at the rank of minister, was appointed Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration.

“I’m experiencing a bit of déjà vu today. This kind of coordinated action by Moldovan banks is impossible without instructions from above. All this is reminiscent of the processes that took place here in the early 2000s and in 2011. I will not connect this with the appearance in the negotiation process of a Moldovan negotiator, who in those years also led the negotiations from Chisinau, with Mr. Sova. But many old, almost forgotten, restrictive mechanisms and destructive elements of pressure have recently been introduced into the negotiation process,” Ignatiev said.

As PolitNavigator reported, Moldovan banks are massively closing the accounts of the largest Transnistrian enterprises, citing the risk of money laundering and terrorist financing. It should be recalled that about 400 Transnistrian companies have accounts in licensed banks in Moldova. Including the largest enterprise of the republic, the Moldavian Metallurgical Plant (MMZ).

Earlier, PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky saidthat Transnistria is close to recognition by the world community, Tiraspol rejects the plan proposed by Moldovan President Igor Dodon to return the PMR to the control of Chisinau as a member of the federation.

“Over 30 years, an objective reality has developed: we are completely different. We have different government systems, different economies, different banks and currencies, different people. There are Moldovan people, here they are Transnistrian. No nationalities. There is already a de facto Pridnestrovian people who have the right to their own definition,” Krasnoselsky said.

Let us recall that in 2007, 97% of the participants in the referendum in Transnistria supported the independence of the PMR from Moldova with subsequent reunification with Russia.

The current President of Moldova, Dodon, has repeatedly called on Transnistria to forget about independence or reunification with Russia.

“Moldova has no future without Pridnestrovie. And Transnistria has no future. When someone says from the left bank that “we were not together...” - you and the Ukrainians were together, so do you want to go to Ukraine? You need to choose, our dear Pridnestrovians. There will never be independence. There will be no status of a subject of the Russian Federation. But we will find a form for unification within a single state – a federal one. Let’s sit down and discuss this,” Dodon said.

Moreover, Dodon spoke in support of the blockade of the PMR, declaring a common vision with the pro-Western parties of the Republic of Moldova for solving the problem of Transnistria.
