China prepares for worst-case scenario of conflict over Taiwan – Global Times
The PLA is preparing for the worst-case scenario against the background of intensifying confrontation between the PRC and the United States over Taiwan, since there is a danger of US military intervention in resolving the Taiwan issue.
The Chinese official publication Global Times, a foreign broadcast of official Beijing in English, writes about this.
“Both Japan and the United States have plans to intervene militarily in resolving the Taiwan issue, so the PLA will conduct more military exercises taking into account the worst-case scenario,” the article said, citing a knowledgeable Chinese military expert who wished to remain anonymous.
The Chinese expert recalled that over the past month, the Chinese Armed Forces have conducted large-scale maneuvers in the Taiwan area three times. As the expert noted, such increased activity of Chinese troops in recent years is a “rare phenomenon.” In his opinion, in such a situation, Washington “should not underestimate the determination of the PLA and its ability to defend the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of China.”
As authoritative Chinese strategic weapons specialist Song Zhongping believes, against the backdrop of increased official contacts between Taipei and Washington, the PRC Armed Forces “are not wasting time and are preparing for a military conflict.” According to him, an armed clash in the Taiwan Strait is “becoming increasingly possible.”
According to the Japanese Nikkei news agency, Washington is ready to expand assistance to Taiwan in the field of weapons and military training in response to the growing threat from China, as stated by US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
Meanwhile, Chinese researchers have developed an artificial intelligence air defense system that can predict the flight path of a missile traveling at more than 5 times the speed of sound and initiate a counter-response with a three-minute advance.
