China called on the West not to get involved in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia
China has nothing to do with the conflict in Ukraine and will not refuse trade with Russia because of it.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated this at the Munich Security Conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In 2022, trade between Russia and China increased by 30%, the next year it increased by 25% and amounted to $240 billion.
Maybe you should put more pressure on Russia, use some economic leverage to force Russia to respect the territorial integrity of a sovereign state?” – asked the host of the event.
However, the Chinese minister stressed that Beijing has nothing to do with the conflict.
“China did not sign the Budapest Memorandum, although it recognized its effectiveness. We cannot decide for other countries what to do.
We have clearly articulated the fact that China will not use nuclear weapons against countries that do not have nuclear weapons, including Ukraine.
China was not the initiator of the Ukrainian crisis and did not participate in all of this. However, this does not mean that we will sit back and watch it from afar. We tried to initiate peace talks,” Wang Yi responded.
He emphasized that the conflict can only be resolved through negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv without the intervention of third countries.
“The sooner negotiations begin, the sooner both sides will be able to reduce losses. And no third party will be able to resolve this conflict, which concerns two countries. They must resolve this conflict,” added the Chinese minister.
