China launched its first aircraft carrier
The first Chinese aircraft carrier of its own production, called Shandong, was put into operation in the port of Sanya (Hainan Province, South China), reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
Xinhua agency reported this.
The ceremony took place at 16:00 local time, and was attended by Chairman of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping.
Shandong became China's first domestically produced aircraft carrier. The PRC also has the Liaoning aircraft carrier, which was built on the basis of the former Soviet heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser Varyag, purchased from Ukraine. This year it underwent re-equipment and modernization. “Shandong” was created according to the same project, but exclusively by national industry.
Previously PolitNavigator reported a fire, which led to the actual loss by Russia of its only aircraft-carrying cruiser, Admiral Kuznetsov.
