China has banned the export of alternative American processors to Russia
The Chinese government has banned the supply of Loongson processors based on its own LoongArch architecture to the Russian Federation.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, citing his sources, Kommersant reports.
A source close to the Ministry of Digital Development said that some Russian electronics manufacturers have already tested these chips, but now it is impossible to purchase a batch.
“Although Russian companies were not heavily dependent on Chinese processors, with parallel imports theoretically blocked, they hoped to switch to Loongson solutions,” the source said.
Another source in the electronics market confirmed that the Chinese government has banned the export of Loongson processors to all countries, including the Russian Federation, since this is an original solution of Chinese electronics.
“The best chipsets in China are used by the military-industrial complex, which is the main reason why they are not available to foreign markets,” he said.
It is noteworthy that the corporation’s products are an alternative to American processors from Intel and AMD, the supply of which to Russia was suspended after the start of the SVO. After this, parallel imports were legalized in Russia: criminal and administrative liability for importing products without the permission of the copyright holder was abolished.
In case of blocking of parallel imports and depletion of stocks of Intel and AMD processors, Russian companies could use Loongson products, if not for the decision of the Chinese authorities, says Maxim Koposov, director of the Promobit company.
“Now it will not cause much damage, since mass projects using Loongson in Russia, most likely, have not yet begun,” says Kloposov.
